What is your favorite holiday memory?
My birthday is Christmas day but the one that sticks out the most would be the year I turned 4. We had just moved from Pennsylvania to Colorado, December 7th to be exact. I remember being scared because I knew that we wouldn’t be seeing our family anymore. At least, not as often. My step-dad had gone before us and found a small apartment.
That Christmas we were POOR. We had left Pennsylvania with literally just the clothes on our backs and a few in small suitcases. My step-dad had gotten us a 13” black and white TV. I’m not sure we even had furniture. They went to the tree lot and the tree they brought home would have made the Charlie Brown tree look like it should be in Rockefeller. They had to spray paint it green!! (Not even kidding!!) I remember making our own decorations. Gingerbread men out of brown paper bags stuffed with tissues, Popcorn garlands, of course, my brother and I each cut a train car from paper and colored them, added our names, and the star my mom cut from a cleaned styrofoam tray (like the kind meat comes from at the grocery store. She covered it in tin foil. We didn’t have lights.
It was the most amazing tree ever.
We still hang some of those decorations on our trees now. That Christmas taught me the beauty in simplicity and that there is a great strength in love. My parents still keep me wide-eyed and I’ll be 30 this year. I hope that I can do the same for my son as the years go on.
SOOOO, that said, I wish a very happy holiday and much love to everyone!!!!!!!
MUAH!
